Joao Chagas garden

Parque João Chagas

Better known as Jardim da Cordoaria, this garden has been known as Jardim João Chagas since 1924. The name it is best known for owes it to the activity of the rope makers who were installed in this place – in the new ropes – for around 200 years.

In the 19th century, the City Council decided to transform Praça da Cordoaria into a public walkway. The project, designed by the German landscaper Emile David, was carried out in 1865/1866. In the garden are the statues of Ramalho Ortigão and António Nobre, a set of sculptures by Juan Muñoz from 2001, as well as "O Rapto de Ganímedes".

Within the scope of Porto 2001, European Capital of Culture, this garden was remodeled.

Montevideu gardens

Jardins de Montevideu

Along Avenida Montevideo and extending along Avenida Brasil, it is possible to admire the beautiful gardens that are part of it. Right at the beginning of the Avenue there is a fountain, designed by the architect Manuel Marques, inaugurated in 1931. The statue of Homem do Leme, from 1934, on the beach with the same name, is a tribute to the men of the sea. Here, you can enjoy the beautiful landscape, the pergola, as well as the Porto cuisine in the various terraces and restaurants in the area.
